Proposals to amend the ABPI Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry and the PMCPA Constitution and Procedure were agreed at the Half Yearly General Meeting of the ABPI on 5 November

​​The amendments result from the new EFPIA Code on Disclosure of Transfers of Value from Pharmaceutical Companies to Healthcare Professionals and Healthcare Organisations and changes to the EFPIA Code on the Promotion of Prescription-Only Medicines to, and Interactions with, Healthcare Professionals. Other amendments to the ABPI Code and the PMCPA Constitution and Procedure were also agreed.

The proposals were sent to the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the British Medical Association (BMA), the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) as required by the Constitution and Procedure. They were also sent to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

The final proposals were agreed at the ABPI Half Yearly General Meeting on Tuesday, 5 November. The new Code of Practice will come into effect on 1 January 2014 (There is a transition period).
