Kate Brunner KC to step down as Chair of the Appeal Board

Press Release 06 August 2025

After 5 years in post, Kate Brunner KC will step down at the end of her term as the Chair of the Code of Practice Appeal Board in November 2025.  The Appeal Board plays a critical role as part of the self-regulatory framework for the UK pharmaceutical industry

Kate commented “It is with sadness that I have decided not to renew my contract as Chair of the Appeal Board, as a result of new commitments.  I have enjoyed my time chairing the Appeal Board, and thank the Board members, all of whom approach decisions with care and independence. I have been so impressed with the diligence of the whole team at the PMCPA, which is thriving under the leadership of Alex Fell: I have no doubt that the institution will continue to provide a high quality service to the public."

Alex Fell, Chief Executive commented “I would like to thank Kate for all of her support and collaboration in this role.  The Chair of the Appeal Board plays a critical role in leading the work of the Appeal board, which is an independent multi-disciplinary board responsible for hearing appeals against the decisions made by the Code of Practice Panel and supervising the work of the PMCPA.  I appreciated the opportunity to work with Kate on the update to the PMCPA Constitution and Procedure in 2024 that sets out the self-regulatory framework for the pharmaceutical industry in the UK.  I wish Kate every success in the future”.

Russell Abberley, ABPI President commented “I would like to place on record the thanks and appreciation from the ABPI Board for Kate’s role in supporting the PMCPA through a transformation programme, particularly over the last three years.  The changes made to modernise and strengthen the PMCPA Constitution and Procedure while enshrining the independence of the PMCPA have created a strong foundation to further build upon for years to come ”.

The search for Kate’s successor is now underway and the job posting can be accessed here
